Social Media Bad Habits with Tracy Chou from Block Party
I listened to this episode while doing some cleaning this morning. Tracy's someone I know of during my time in California. I learned more about her from this interview than I anticipated[1]. Her work with BlockParty is something I've mentioned to friends and I'm glad to see that it survived the mayhem wrought by Musk and has expanded beyond that platform. I do have to say, I'm slightly disappointed in how little questioning (or the lack of depth) that I found with the interviewers had with Tracy. She's a really sharp person and I would have loved to hear more about how she's managed to settle on the practices that BlockParty promotes through its use.
You can jump about 19 minutes in to hear her segment[2] and what she speaks on. I hope that such a platform is something that grows to become less necessary as companies begin to give people more levers for autonomy, a necessary component for privacy, and people begin to take their own privacy more seriously.
But she's also both a private person and I realized I've never been to her personal website before, which mentions what she describes on the show. Exposed. ↩︎
No offense to the people at 1Password but I didn't really care for the introduction bit. And the lackadaisical tone to the USDoD leak and 1Password's own history of leaks made it hard to take it seriously. Something here about surveillance capitalism would be apt, but I'd let the person who coined that term explain more. ↩︎
