Data Colonialism Comes Home To The US: Resistance Must Too
The concept of colonialism, the expanding of control of a people, their environment and culture, is foreign to the American populace; at least those who are "citizen-native"[1]. This article is co-authored by the same authors of Data Grab. It's a succient explainer of what many folks have been chided as "extreme", "ridiculous" or "outlandish" for: the core purpose of the companies of the Silicon Valley collective is to absorb, quantify and monetize as much information as possible about everyone who touches their systems. It defeats the breadth and scope of privacy that one could advocate for[2]. I'm appreciative of this article. I'm also confident that the folks who need to read this won't or will allow their corporate alliances to prevent them from understanding that they aren't a comrade or even a customer to these companies: they're a cog.
These are people who either have immigrated without any sort of duress from land seizure or capture directed caused by a Western force. ↩︎
Folks will declare that things like end-to-end encryption is a viable stopgap and many privacy advocates more wiser than I have confirmed that. With the recent capitulation of Apple to the UK, it's clear that if and when the 5/9 Eyes collective need such a tap; they can (and will) create it outside of the press: it's already happened. ↩︎
