Revolution.Social - What's Next for Social Media?
Over the last few days, I've been speed running (at 1.75x) a podcast by Evan called https://revolution.social/, which is a bit of a build-up to what his company is building; a "permission-less" social media network. I am a bearish person by trait and do not move under the notion of "assuming positive intent" — that has to be earned. That had me struggle with some of the insight that Evan provided during his podcast due to what I'd label as a very utopian, "moun nan mond li a" (people only of his world), perspective on the future of social media. Due to his career, access and social circles, he's been able to host a genre of folks to talk and probe questions about their perspectives on social media and how it's impacted them as well as a bit of a biographical dump for each person. It's also preventing him from seeing the locked-in levers of comfort that he sits in and how it still reinforces the systems (and not create a system of dual power) on the systems he claims to be against. To a degree, I wonder if the social ties (and access) is more important to him than the actual principles he espouses — that's problematic because that makes it easy to be sold.
