Weeknotes for 9/2/2024

I almost forgot to write this! My fault. However, if you're reading this in your feed reader: you rock! More on that below. This one's a bit shorter — I'll make up for that next week!

Reading

Surviving the Future

This book is written by people of all backgrounds and it's become more and more clear as it goes on. You might have seen a lot of my quotations of it on the Fediverse[1] — the essayists are not holding back. It's empowering to hear of actions folks are taking against establishment in the United States and Canada — the way media operates, you'd assume that liberation is something that pops up in February or June as a corporate branding event. I'm eager to finish this and add it to a list of books I want to write a longer review about.

I'm in need to catch up with books like The Trinity of Fundamentals and return to None but the Righteous; I'm happy to have a less "intense" reading journey. Very excited to add some fiction into the rotation.

I've read and responded to some links I've seen around the Web:

Writing

I wrote about getting more into RSS a few days ago. I could have gone down the easier route and set up something like Feedly, or if I had money, subscribed to Inoreader but I have a very capable computer at home that doesn't shut off so I decided to bring it all enough. The post goes more into detail — expect a follow up to it at the end of this month because I have thoughts. I also wrote my wrap up for Black August — won't repeat it here; check it out!

Coding

I've been working on adding more tests to Livtet so nothing really big to report. I have, however, been grinding on Shock after declaring a want to move off the (feudal) Fediverse. I'm holding off on declaring too much about it until I get to a decent minor version. However, I'm glad that I spent more time thinking instead of hammering things out and treating this more like a work project. Tests — tests everywhere.

Outside of this, I'm crossing my fingers tightly as I'm waiting to hear back from a few places. I mentioned two weeks ago, I'm getting closer to a set of interviews and hoping to start a contract very soon. All of the things giving me hope in restoring some semblance of financial independence.
